Sydney’s own MALO MALO, described by triple j as a ‘highly potent’ & ‘progressive’ salsa band, Malo Malo’s leader Danny G Felix draws inspiration from classic 1970’s Cuban, Puerto Rican & New York dance bands. Imbued with Latin rhythms such as guaguanco, son montuno, mozambique, cha cha, son, songo & bolero their music is energetic, uplifting & captivating.
Danny G spends his time between Sydney & Cali, Colombia – the ”capital of Salsa” ! It was there where he built a strong bond with many musicians while working with the all-star Colombian Salsa group Orquesta Calibre. MALO MALO, passionate about music, multiculturalism, human rights & equality. Released their debut album “AUSTRALEÑO” 2019. Several tracks charted internationally & were featured in the top 100 “New Generation Salsa” playlists. It was ‘”Album of the week” on Eastside Radio & SBS Spanish, with the single “Finao” being “song of the week” on radio FBI’s Bare Necessities.
They featured in 2020 performing at Cali’s biggest new years day street party in the barrio Ulpiano lloreda shortly followed by sold out shows in Colombia’s capital Bogota. MALO MALO’s explosive live shows always set fire to the dance floor with their powerful & infectious groove. Their latest releases are the Live in Cali EP recorded at Cali’s famous salsa club La Topa Tolondra and “Mi Ritmo” a collaboration with the Sydney electro-latin super trio Oyobi and is out on London’s AtJazz record label.
